Bourne Town beat Long Buckby in the FA Vase

Bourne Town are through to the second round of the FA Vase for the first time in more than 30 years.

The Wakes booked their place in the next stage after a 4-1 away win at Spartans South Midlands League Division One side Long Buckby on Saturday.

Zac Allen scored twice with Zak Munton and Robbie Ellis also on target as Bourne made a rapid return to winning ways.

They had seen their 13-match unbeaten run in all competitions end last Tuesday night in a 1-0 away loss at Wisbech Town in the United Counties League Premier Division North.

But two goals in each half on Saturday secured their progress to the second round of the Vase for the first time in 32 years.

Ethan Flaig had been unable to convert a good early chance for the Bucks before Bourne broke the deadlock in the 28th minute.

Munton was the provider as he took possession before cutting inside and squaring the ball to Allen to fire home.

Callum Steers powered a header over the Bourne crossbar as the Bucks looked for a quick way back into the contest.

Bourne had an effort ruled out for offside before they doubled their advantage three minutes before the break.

It was Allen with the assist this time as he teed up Munton who drove a half-volley into the back of the Buckby net and gave Bourne a two-goal half-time cushion.

They added a third goal just three minutes after the restart when Ellis headed home from an Allen corner.

Buckby pulled a goal back just past the hour mark when Steers played in Adam Shaw to finish past Dan Swan in the Bourne goal.

The hosts then rattled the post twice in quick succession before any hopes of a comeback were ended by Bourne's fourth goal with six minutes remaining.

Munton played a through ball to release Allen who applied another confident finish to seal the success and a place in the next round.

Bourne return to Premier Division North action on Saturday with a trip to face Shirebrook Town.
