Peg Torrance, from the Patient Participation Group, said: “Terry is hanging up his keys having given more than 17 years of service to the scheme. He will be sorely missed but we know we haven’t seen the last of him.

“I’d like to say a very big thank you to him from all the staff and the Patient Participation Group.”

Terry said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my 17 years taking part in the Deeping and Glinton scheme as a volunteer driver. It’s a valuable service in our local community.

“Volunteering gave me a real sense of purpose after retiring and the appreciation from the patients gave me an even greater sense of satisfaction.

“I’ve met lots of lovely people over the years who have shared their interesting life stories with me. Repeat patients became more like friends.”

Drivers typically volunteer for a few days each week. They pick up patients from home. drive them to appointments, help them into the building if needed and wait for them before driving them home.

Anyone who needs their help or would like to offer their time as a driver can contact the volunteer coordinators on 07858 373912 or email contact.the.deepingsppg@gmail.com

Terry added: “I would highly recommend it to anyone who has spare time to give. Being a volunteer driver is very rewarding and you’ll make new friendships within the team of other drivers too.”
