Dangerous driver stopped by Nottinghamshire Police after travelling from Gainsborough
Footage shows a dangerous driver being chased and arrested by police.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, going equipped for theft, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence last Tuesday (October 15) by Nottinghamshire Police officers.
While travelling on the A631, officers spotted a black Ford Focus with false registration plates travelling from Gainsborough into Nottinghamshire.
Officers continued to follow the vehicle towards Bawtry in Nottinghamshire, while it was travelling at speed and overtaking motorists.
The driver continued to overtake and over the speed limit, as well as turning left through a red light.
The vehicle then failed to stop and a pursuit was ordered. As the Ford travelled away from Bawtry, it reached speeds over 80mph.
The driver continued to overtake and then drove on the wrong side of the road head-on towards oncoming traffic, forcing other motorists to swerve to avoid a crash.
After the vehicle went onto the right side of the road, the driver crashed into another car. It resulted in minor damage.
Officers ended the pursuit by making contact with the Ford, just over Scaftworth Hill on the approach towards the village of Everton.
After the Ford veered off the road and into a field, the driver then ran from the car.
After a short foot pursuit, he was swiftly detained by PC Haddon Smith who drew his Taser and told him to stop.
Following his arrest, the driver was released on conditional bail.
PC Smith said: “Our number one priority is to keep people safe.
"As highlighted in this instance, we will not tolerate people who break the law by driving vehicles in a dangerous manner that puts themselves and other road users and members of the public at risk of serious injury or death.
“We remain committed each and every day to doing all we can to make our roads safe and reducing the number of people who are killed and seriously injured on our roads.”
