A special visit from MP at Walton Girls’ High School in Grantham
Shadow cabinet minister Nicolas Dakin visited Walton Girls’ High School to talk about steelworks and the community.
Mr Dakin joined Year 10 geography students for their controlled assessment work. The students interviewed him as part of their project on steel in the community and welcome his in-depth knowledge on the topic.
When asked about his visit, Mr Dakin said how impressed he was with the preparation behind the chosen questions and enthusiasm for learning. He also spoke with Walton’s principal Caroline Saxelby and the leadership team about education in the current climate and seemed impressed with Walton’s vision.
He also enjoyed a tour of the school and experienced lunch with the students.
Miss Gilbert, head of humanities said: “It was an exciting day, all of the students really enjoyed the visit and they had a chance to hear about local topics.”
Miss Pasek, geography teacher said: “We invited Mr Dakin to meet the students to talk about Scunthorpe Steel Works as part of their current controlled assessment.
“Students prepared questions to ask the MP, it was nice to see how excited and engaged they were during the interview.
