A1 reported open again at Grantham after three-vehicle collision with tanker




The A1 southbound has reopened at Gonerby Moor, Grantham, following a three-vehicle collision including a tanker earlier today.

Three fire engines, police and the ambulance service attended the scene together with an air ambulance. National Highways says the southbound carriageway is now fully open.

The AA had reported that one lane was closed with long delays and queueing traffic due to the accident on A1 Southbound between B1174 Great North Road (Marston Turn Off) and A52 (Grantham North / Barrowby Turn Off.

A diversion was put in place but an eye witness had said that lorries that were too tall to take the diversion were unable to leave the carpark at Downtown.

Lincolnshire Police said: "We are on scene at a collision involving three vehicles on the A1, Great North Road. The road is closed Southbound to Gonerby Moor on the A1. Please avoid the area if you can."

There are reports of more delays northbound towards Newark after a vehicle fire although the road is not blocked.
