A1 Truck Stop in Colsterworth scoops prestigious award

Staff at The A1 Truck-Stop and Stadium Diner, Colsterworth, are celebrating after being awarded Largest Truck Stop of the Year 2018.

The prestigious award is given out each year by Truckstop News, the national haulage industry newspaper, in a bid to promote high standards in the quality of facilities provided for the nation’s hard-working truck drivers.

The A1 Truck Stop and Stadium Diner have been awarded the top spot by their army of loyal customers who had to judge them in areas including food, facilities and parking.

The truck stop has gone from strength to strength since owners Albert and Margaret White purchased the site in 1999.

The dedicated duo have built up the business from a small cafe and stop with facilities for just a few vehicles to a major business catering for more than 200 trucks every night and a thriving diner.

Margaret sets the menu for the diner and Albert has built up the successful lorry park for travelling truckers, which now includes a
£100k state of the art truck wash.

The A1 Stadium Diner featured in a BBC1 series, A1: Britain’s Longest Road, last year, featuring in more than one episode due to it being a popular stop for lorries.

Since winning Truck Stop of the Year for the first time in 2014 having been runners-up in 2013, they have continued to invest in the site, from spending £400k in Tarmac to improve the lorry park, installing a purpose built drive through truck wash with water recycling facilities and providing additional showers for the 200 drivers who will park up most week nights.

Albert said: “We have been fortunate to have several long serving employees who put a lot of effort into ensuring drivers are made to feel welcome and provide a home from home, including Anita, Mary and their teams in the diner who cook over 4,000 eggs a week, Dave and Trevor on parking, Ian and Omer on lorry wash, Steve and Paul on maintenance, Tess, Belinda and Charlie in the shop accessories and
bar and Di and Celia in admin.

“They all give their very best in making the Colsterworth Truck Stop the best in the UK.”

The couple have donated £1,000 to the Air Ambulance on behalf of all the drivers that voted for them.

Albert added: “We see a lot of accidents on the roads due to our location and we want to keep our drivers as safe as possible.”
