A1 truckstop near Grantham still serving drivers during lockdown
The A1 Truckstop and Stadium Diner, near Colsterworth, is still open for business for lorry drivers despite the coronavirus lockdown.
The award-winning truckstop continues to offer 24/7 shower and toilet facilities, as well as a £100,000 truck wash.
Owners Albert and Margaret White are also still offering homemade food from the stop’s cafe, but it is now served through a hatch.
Albert said: “We want to show our staff that we appreciate them. They’ve pulled out all the stops.
“Some drivers have come all the way from Newcastle and we are the first stop with open toilets and showers. They’ve had to go out of their way to come to us as a lot of places have shut.
“We might be losing a bit of money from it but we want to keep the drivers washed and fed. We’re just doing our bit.
“We want to say thank you to all our staff and to the drivers. Their children have been sending messages, stickers and chocolate to our staff to say thank you.
“It’s a terrible thing that’s happening right now but the atmosphere and the togetherness has been brilliant.”
