New £350,000 adventure playground to open at Belvoir Castle
The opening of a new £350,000 adventure playground will be the highlight as Belvoir Castle prepares to launch its biggest season to date.
The castle has greatly improved its facilities over the past five years with 2022 set to be its busiest yet.
The recent addition of a bespoke adventure playground, which has seen an investment of £350,000 brings a host of new fun activities for children and teenagers.
The new facility covers four acres and includes, a giant timber castle, ship and towers complete with portholes, zip wire, climbing nets, tunnels and more. Entry to the Adventure Playground will be included in all garden tickets.
With Mother’s Day only around the corner, the castle’s Aviary and Fuel Tank venues will be hosting a special afternoon tea on March 26 and 27.
Little ones will love the Easter activity trails taking place from April 1 to 18, as they follow clues to solve puzzles throughout the garden to receive a tasty chocolate prize. Of course, the Easter bunny will be there, too!
New for 2022, Belvoir Revisited - a series of weekend events running throughout the year – will be recreating moments in the castle’s history. Visitors can join in with a host of interactive activities from dancing to wartime jazz, learning about Regency-era combat or taking part in the castle’s first-ever Steampunk Weekend.
Belvoir will also be celebrating this year’s momentous Platinum Jubilee with its own Great British Street Party. With a host of street performers, delicious food and drink and performances from Punch and Judy, falconry displays and jousting knights, June 4 and 5 will be bursting with great British entertainment.
June’s highlights continue from the 10th to the 12th with open-air cinema. Celebrate 50 Years of Abba with Mamma Mia, sing along to Rocky Horror Picture Show and enjoy the magic of Oscar-nominated West Side Story beneath the stars.
Annual favourite Belvoir Flower and Garden Show returns on July 16 and 17, now in its fifth year, and bringing a blooming two days of floral celebration.
Belvoir’s shopping village The Engine Yard will be running its own programme of seasonal events throughout the year. New weekly pop-up markets will provide shoppers with a chance to buy from a range of independents whilst popular live music evenings and seasonal celebrations return to the Balloon Bar and Fuel Tank.
Two open-air theatre shows are planned in for this summer. Visitors can laugh along to David Walliams’ Awful Auntie and participate in the quirky interactive murder mystery Much Ado About Murder, which take place on July 21 and August 13 respectively.
Firework Champions will also return on August 20 and in true spectacular fashion the Belvoir team will be filling the skies with a showstopping display.
Other seasonal highlights will include the return of the Festival of the Horse on September 10 and 11, following its successful launch last year. This time, the castle’s team are expanding the space to include a third arena and visitors can look forward to some breath-taking displays and stunt and trick riding.
The Engine Yard’s popular Bonfire night celebrations return on November 5 with spectacular fireworks and festive food and drinks.
As the year draws to a close after an incredible line-up of events, it culminates with another magical festive season at Belvoir – visitors can look forward to the return of the winter wonderland and a beautifully decorated castle.
