An apprenticeship with Belvoir provides a perfect opportunity to join the award-winning nationwide property company based at Central Office in Grantham.
Lockdown restrictions, online tuition, and high student debt are making university placements less appealing, while an apprenticeship offers the chance to ‘earn as you learn’.
Adam Egner, 21, has just completed his final AAT Level 4 exams and is now looking forward to developing a long-term career with Belvoir’s finance team.
“I’m delighted that Adam has aced his accounting apprenticeship, and is now qualified as an accounting technician,” says Belvoir’s chief financial officer Louise George.
“Adam first joined Belvoir in 2017 and was awarded Apprentice of the Year by Grantham College in 2019. The pandemic meant that completing Level 4; the final stage of his exams, was incredibly challenging, but Adam’s determination resulted in him passing first time.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in lack of employment opportunities for many local young people. Belvoir tried to help address this by recruiting three apprentices in 2020 and is now offering a further three new apprenticeships. I encourage applications from any ambitious local youngsters who are interested in developing a career with Belvoir.”
In 2019 Belvoir was awarded Business Development Centre Employer of the Year by Grantham College and University Centre.
The college’s business development manager Pauline Mould says: “Belvoir offers broad, interesting, job roles in a highly professional environment, providing an excellent launch into good careers for every apprentice.
“Senior managers drive the programme to ensure the apprenticeship role is integral to the operation of each department. Belvoir’s support and mentoring is exceptional.”
Meet the apprentices!
Ben Jowett: “I’m half-way through a two-year accounting apprenticeship, working towards my AAT Level 4 exams. I was put off University because of the student debt, and also because the tuition moved online. My apprenticeship is great – I like earning whilst learning, and gaining far more business experience than at uni. I receive fantastic support and highly recommend an apprenticeship.”
Ellie Clubb: “I started working as a Saturday assistant at Belvoir Grantham while doing my A levels. I like structure and routine and decided university wasn’t for me. I discovered Belvoir’s apprenticeship scheme and I’m now a finance assistant apprentice working towards my AAT exams. I currently go into college once a week and work at Central Office on the other days. It’s a perfect balance, and I’m keen to continue my career with Belvoir.”
Despoina Ntalampira: “I chose the apprenticeship route because I wanted to gain business experience, without incurring huge student debt. I found this one-year apprenticeship through Grantham College, and love it. I attend college one day a week, and enjoy gaining experience in different departments, including franchise support, marketing, HR and IT. I really feel part of the team and I’m hoping it will lead to career opportunities.”
Adam Egner: “My apprenticeship was great. The managers see the potential in you before you do! I never wanted to go down the university route. I liked the idea of earning whilst learning. Belvoir is a large, strong business that is constantly growing. Whenever the group acquires another brand, I know there will be new challenges, which makes my job interesting.”
Caitlyn Bavister: “After completing my accountancy apprenticeship, I was offered a job as an auditor. For me the choice of whether to do an apprenticeship or go to university is a no-brainer. By doing an apprenticeship you gain the equivalent qualifications to a university degree, whilst being paid and without accumulating huge debt. You also gain business experience and are well placed to become a full-time employee.”
