Bank takes ‘difficult decision’ to close Grantham branch
A Grantham bank is closing down, citing a trend of customers moving online as the main cause.
The Halifax, in High Street, is set to close on November 8, one of 79 branches nationwide listed for closure.
A bank spokesperson said: “The world is becoming more digital than ever before and more of our customers are doing their everyday banking online.
“With more customers choosing to use digital ways to bank and manage their money, visits at this branch have fallen. As a result, we've made the difficult decision to close it.”
According to the results of a branch review, just 146 of the Grantham branch’s customers used it regularly in the 12 months to January 2023.
The spokesperson said a ‘community banker’ will visit the area after the branch closes.
“They’ll have a dedicated office space in a local venue for you to chat in private – and there’s no need to arrange an appointment,” they added. “Simply visit them during their opening hours at their community venue.”
The nearest branches to Grantham from November will be in Newark and Sleaford.
