Owner appeals for help after beloved Jack Russell is killed by hit and run driver in Grantham High Street
The owner of a dog killed by a hit and run driver has appealed for help in finding the motorist.
Liz Baker, of Barkston, was devastated when her Jack Russell died after being hit by a silver grey vehicle on the High Street in Grantham on the evening of Saturday, October 19.
Her dog, called Zachariah Bartholomew Dovey, or Zac for short, was being walked on a lead by Liz’s brother Ed near Barclays Bank at about 7pm when a car appeared to backfire and startled Zac. He got away from Ed, ran across the road and was struck by the vehicle.
Liz told the Journal: “Please help me find the driver who hit and killed my beautiful, gorgeous Jack Russell. It was witnessed but this coward just drove away.”
Zac was given to Liz by her brother as a present on her 40th birthday. He was eight years old and died in her brother’s arms.
Liz says Ed is not well after suffering a stroke and is ‘inconsolable’.
Liz said: “My brother is mortified. My baby died in his arms. This driver has blood on his hands and his car. The toe rag just drove off.
“This happy, beautiful, gorgeous little boy has got me through a separation, a divorce, losing my job, my partner Alex dying of cancer and then welcoming me to meet my new partner Barry.
“My heart is broken again. I have lost my baby Zac. Please help us bring this driver to justice.”
Liz also has a cat, Poppet, which she says is 24 years old and is missing Zac ‘deeply’.
She thanked Avenue Veterinary Centre for their help after they presented Liz with Zac’s ashes.
Liz said that all she had been told was that the car involved was a silver grey colour. She called on any witnesses who may have more information to get in touch with the police.
If anyone has any information on the incident they should call police on 101.
