Brain tumour survivor from Grantham raises over £1,000 for The Brain Tumour Charity across three bake off events
A brain tumour survivor held three bake-off events in Grantham which raised over £1,000 for a charity dedicated to fighting the disease.
Caroline Midgley, local ambassador for The Brain Tumour Charity, has raised vital funds by hosting three ‘Big Bakes’, at St Wulfram's Church, Living Health and The Garden Yard.
September has been Big Bake month for The Brain Tumour Charity, the UK’s leading charity dedicated to fighting this devastating disease.
Caroline, from Grantham was inspired to become a charity ambassador for The Brain Tumour Charity after being diagnosed herself in 2021 with a brain tumour.
She underwent two brain surgeries, one to remove the tumour, the other to remove infected skull.
The charity has helped her through every step of her diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
Caroline explained that this is her way of saying thank you to them.
Caroline said: “All three bakes were a fabulous success, with wonderful cake donations and support from my family and friends.
“Very well attended, with very generous donations, the events gave people a chance to come together and support.
“It's been heartbreaking to hear such devastating stories being shared. But, also many positive and hopefully showing our community that you are not alone and there can be life after diagnosis.
"A big thank you to St Wulfram's, Living Health and The Garden Yard for hosting and all who came along to support, donate and chat.”
Caroline’s current total is £1,069.18, which she is “thrilled” about, as it surpassed her target of £1,000.
She is still taking donations via her JustGiving page.
Gina Almond, the charity’s director of fundraising, said: “We are extremely grateful for all the efforts made by our fantastic fundraisers.
“Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of the under 40s and, unlike other cancers, survival rates have not improved over the last 40 years.
“We are leading the way in changing this and truly fighting brain tumours on all fronts through our work.
“It’s through the efforts of people like Caroline that we can change these shocking statistics in the future and bring hope to the thousands of people who are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year."
The Brain Tumour Charity funds pioneering research to increase survival and improve treatment options as well as raising awareness of the symptoms and effects of brain tumours to bring about earlier diagnosis.
The charity also provides support for everyone affected so that they can live as full a life as possible, with the best quality of life.
