'Bubble' of Grantham pupils to stay home after child is exposed to positive Covid-19 case
A 'bubble' of Year 6 children are to stay home after a pupil was exposed to a person who has tested positive for coronavirus.
The pupils of National Junior School, in Grantham, are to stay at home as a precautionary measure and have been advised to be tested if they are worried or have potential symptoms.
The bubble system, implemented to limit the spread of coronavirus between children returning to school after lockdown, ensures that children stay with the same classmates and teachers at all times, and in the same space.
In a letter sent to parents today (Thursday), headteacher Anne Platts said: "At the National site, we were notified today that one of our Year 6 children has been exposed to a person who has tested positive to Covid-19.
"As a precautionary measure this Year 6 bubble were asked to stay at home and staff and pupils advised to be tested if they are worried or have potential symptoms. This follows Government guidance which states:
"'All staff and students who are attending an education or childcare setting will have access to a test if they display symptoms of coronavirus (Covid-19), and are encouraged to get tested in this scenario.
"Where the child, young person or staff member tests negative, they can return to their setting. Where the child, young person or staff member tests positive, the rest of their class or group within their childcare or education setting should be sent home and advised to self-isolate for 14 days.'’
"We will continue to keep you informed of developments, but at this stage none of our pupils have had a positive test to Covid-19 and our measures are purely precautionary.
"We thank you for your support in this matter as we try to minimise risks to the health and safety of the children and staff."
Yesterday (Wednesday), a pupil at Isaac Newton School tested positive with the virus after displaying symptoms last week.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 were the year groups who returned to school first on June 1, following lockdown which began in March.
