Nationwide Building Society marks 50 years in Grantham premises today

A building society has had a presence on Grantham's High Street for 50 years.

Monday marked 50 years in the town for The Nationwide Building Society, which was called The Hastings & Thanet Building Society when it opened a branch on May 17, 1971.

This then became an Anglia branch when they merged in 1978 and then in 1987 became part of the Nationwide network following a merger with the Anglia.

The business has been in the same location through each change of name.

Branch manager Joanne Hetherington-Field said: "We plan to have a party when we are allowed later in the year to celebrate this with our members."
