The Snug in Grantham confirms closure due to owner's declining health and current economic climate
A Grantham café bar has closed due to the “declining health” of one of its owners and the “current financial climate”.
It was announced yesterday (Monday) that the Snug in Westgate would close, just over a year on from its opening in May 2022.
In a statement from owners Kathryn Hodgson and Luke Ballantyne, it was confirmed that the “difficult decision” to close was made due to Kathryn’s health and the current financial climate.
The statement said: “As some of you may have noticed, we haven’t been open for a little while now.
“It is with heavy hearts we inform you that due to the declining health of one of our owners, Kathryn, and the current financial climate, we have had to make the difficult decision to close The Snug.
“Kathryn is suffering from kidney failure, and as a result, she has begun undergoing dialysis treatment and spending lots of time in hospital while waiting for her third organ transplant.
“As you can imagine, this challenging situation has taken a toll on Kathryn’s health and overall well-being. She has always been at the heart and soul of The Snug, tirelessly doing her best throughout her health struggles- however, her health must now take priority, and she now requires time to focus on her treatment and recovery.”
Since opening, the business has been the victim of three break-ins, including two earlier this year that left Luke and Kathryn “devastated”.
The statement continued: “We want to express our deepest gratitude for support and patronage from our customers throughout our time at The Snug.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. Your support means the world to her and all of us at The Snug.
“Once again, we extend our heartfelt appreciation for your loyalty, support, and understanding during this difficult period.”
