Call to veterans and Armed Forces community to line route as respects are paid to late Grantham D-Day hero Frank Northing
Respects will be paid tomorrow (Tuesday) at the funeral of D-Day hero Frank Northing, who sadly passed away last month.
A call has sounded for veterans and Armed Forces personnel to line the route to Frank's funeral to honour the late veteran.
The funeral will take place at 10.30am in Grantham Crematorium Chapel.
However, with limited numbers allowed to attend the service due to social distancing brought about by the coronavirus, members of the Armed Forces and veterans will pay their respects to Frank by lining the route in his honour.
Jim Hill, who runs the Grantham Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club, said: "The former Green Howard soldier who landed on the beaches during the Normandy invasion, subsequently injured, patched up, redeployed in the midst of a battle, had hand-to-hand combat with the Hun, taken prisoner, released, came back and lived to tell the tale. A real-life hero."
Social distancing guidelines will be followed by those lining the route to pay their last respects to Frank.
Jim added: "Can we all line the route in honour of this man? Beret and medals is the norm for these sad occasions. I hope to see you there."
Frank, who received France's highest honour, the Legion d'honneur back in 2016 for his part in the landings and the liberation of France.
Aged 94, he passed away peacefully in Gregory House Care Home on May 26, prompting Frank's friend, Robert Morley, to offer a heartfelt tribute.
