Care home residents at Maple Leaf Lodge in Grantham mark International Men’s Day with beer and James Bond

Care home residents in Grantham marked International Men’s Day with beer and a James Bond film.

Staff and residents at Maple Leaf Lodge in Beacon Lane joined together on Monday to mark International Men’s Day, which aims to appreciate and celebrate men and the contribution they make to society.

The theme for 2023 is ‘Zero Male Suicide’.

Prior to the day, residents at Maple Leaf Lodge were asked to nominate all the outstanding men they knew who were working in the home, volunteering or making another valuable contribution to society.

Residents were asked to think about the positive value those men bring to the world, their families and communities, and to acknowledge and celebrate that effort.

The following evening, the gentleman of Maple Leaf came together for a ‘Pizza and Pint’ evening as they enjoyed a selection of take away pizza and a choice of ales.

They were then entertained with a movie matinee showing of 007 classic ‘Dr No.’ starring Sean Connery.

Kerry Angeloni, senior general manager at Maple Leaf, said: “International Men’s Day is a really positive way for us to thank all of the unsung heroes that help to make our lives better.

“It is a great way for us to recognise all the wonderful men in our lives and let them know how much we value them.

“Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.”
