Caythorpe recycling centre plans to extend operating hours
Residents have reacted to multiple applications to extend the operating times of a Caythorpe recycling centre.
Mid UK Recycling have submitted nine applications to vary planning conditions, in order to allow operations at their site off Caythorpe Heath Lane to take place later on Saturdays, as well as on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
In an application letter the company states: “Though the proposed variations to the above conditions will enable the Caythorpe facility to operate with greater flexibility over weekends and Bank Holidays, it is not anticipated that such will give rise to significant volumes of traffic or operational activity during these periods.”
It is proposed that the currently permitted hours of 7am to 1pm on Saturdays be extended to 5pm, and for operations to also be permitted between 7am and 5pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
In response Carlton Scroop and Normanton On Cliffe parish council are holding a public meeting tonight to discuss the proposals.
In a public notice the council states: “If the applications - nine in all - are granted, commercial traffic passing through both Carlton Scroop and Normanton could reach similar levels on Saturday and Sunday to those now experienced daily from Monday to Friday.”
The meeting is taking place at Sudbrook Moor Golf Club tonight, May 5, from 7.30pm. Members of the public are invited to attend and give their views to the parish council.
Managing director of Mid UK Recycling Limited, Chris Mountain, added: “We are currently seeking to vary conditions relating to goods vehicle delivery hours at the Caythorpe MRF in order to address iterative requests from North Kesteven District Council and South Kesteven District Council to receive recyclable waste during Bank Holidays and weekends.
“We recognise that the Caythorpe Materials Recycling Facility makes an important contribution towards achieving local waste management objectives. To date, our ability to facilitate deliveries outside of permitted hours has involved a process whereby written agreement is required from the Waste Planning Authority (Lincolnshire County Council).
“Following consultation with LCC, it was recommended that a variation of delivery/opening hour conditions would enable Mid UK Recycling Ltd to address waste delivery requests from local authorities with much greater efficiency.
“It is emphasised that the planning applications will not result in any intensification of waste processing activities at the Caythorpe MRF. The proposed measures will merely promote more effective and timely management of waste in a manner that minimises traffic congestion. Following publication of the applications by LCC, Mid UK Recycling Ltd has engaged with members of the local community in order to answer any questions/concerns.”
