Chris Maslin Memorial Custom Car and Bike Rally will raise money in memory of Grantham teenager who died aged 19
A car and bike rally will be held in memory of a Grantham teenager with a "huge personality" who sadly died in 2020 aged 19.
The Chris Maslin Memorial Custom Car and Bike Rally will take place from October 20 to 22 in aid of two causes that were a big part of Chris’ life, FOSA (Friends of Sandon and Ambergate) and Grantham District Scouts.
Held at Grantham Cricket Club in Gorse Lane, the rally will combine two of Chris’ main loves, camping and vehicles, with unusual cars, bike and trikes, set to be featured at the event. There will also be competitions for the best vehicles.
Although the event has been held once before, this is the first public event held in honour of Chris.
Chris’ parents, Steve and Amanda Maslin, say that all bikes, trikes, cars and families are welcome, as well as dogs, if they are kept on a lead.
Slingshot Monster Truck UK has been confirmed as a special guest at the rally.
There will also be fair rides, rally merchandise trailers, valet services, a tattooist, camping, a bar and food stalls.
Amanda and Steve said: “Please join us in keeping Christopher's memory alive at the first annual event held in his honour.
“Chris loved all things cars and bikes, and could often be found taking photos of unusual and expensive cars. And let's not forget the car he had the most photos of, his one true love, his blue Corsa C!
“This event will help raise much needed funds for the charities that helped him grow into the amazing young man he was.”
There will be live music on both Friday and Saturday. Outside Chance, The Colliers and Wake Up George are set to perform on Friday night, while Lady Rose, Skeleton Crew and DJ Ricky Gee take to the stage on Saturday.
Last year’s event also raised awareness of the dangers of drugs, which were the cause of Chris’ death on October 28, 2020.
In October 2021, a memorial for Chris, delayed by Covid, was held at Ancaster Duke Coverts Scout Campsite, with over 200 people attending.
Christopher was described as an “inquisitive” and “bright” child. He was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome at a young age.
He spent his primary school years at Belton Lane Primary School and Harrowby Infants, which then followed on to National Junior School. Eventually, Christopher found his place at Ambergate school.
Christopher had many adventures during his teenage years, including an exchange trip to Germany with Ambergate school, where he climbed mountains, tried new foods and met new people. He loved to travel and had also visited Tunisia, Florida and Spain with his family.
Christopher moved to Sir William Robertson Academy in Year 10 where he made friends for life and achieved some excellent GCSE results.
After school, Christopher went to Newark College to study IT. He completed the first year, but having bought his first car during this time, which he loved, he decided to pursue a career as a mechanic.
