Clockpelter statue in Great Gonerby given patriotic make-over for St George's Day
A statue erected in Great Gonerby last year was given a patriotic make-over yesterday to mark St George's Day.
The Clockpelter statue could be seen holding up a flag of St George as well as wearing its own personal protection equipment (PPE) in the form of a mask.
The statue was erected across the road from St Sebastian's Church in recognition of the clockpelters from many years ago.
The wooden statue, made of elm by Nigel Sardeson, was unveiled in July last year on the site of the old village pond from where, it is said, boys threw stones and snowballs to try and hit the church clock across the road.
The village clock was installed by the parish council in the church tower in 1897.
