Grantham College & University Centre’s residential accommodation rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted inspectors

A college has received an ‘outstanding’ rating from Ofsted following an inspection of its accommodation.

Grantham College & University Centre’s residential accommodation has been rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted inspectors, who visited the site last month.

The report praised the College’s “excellent” communication with professionals across the site, families of young people and external professionals.

It noted that the residential staff maintain “regular contact with private external employers who provide apprenticeships and with families to share information that helps ensure that young people are safe and receiving the help and support they need”.

The report also said that staff go “above and beyond expectations in supporting the young people”.

A particular strength of the college highlighted in the report is the “positive relationships that residential staff have developed with the young people”.

The report added: “They are attentive to young people’s needs and recognise when additional support may be required and act immediately to provide this support. This ensures that young people are provided with every opportunity to thrive at college”.

Paul Deane, principal and chief executive of Grantham College, said: “I am delighted that Ofsted have graded Grantham College outstanding, and I would like to congratulate and thank all the staff, students and partners of the college that have invested so much time and effort to make this such a wonderful place to reside, study and work.

“The inspectors recognised that staff go above and beyond expectations in supporting young people and that young people who stay at the residential provision at this college receive excellent care and support.

“They found that the actions of the college contribute to significantly improved outcomes and positive experiences for young people.

“They describe the overall experiences and progress of young people at Grantham College as outstanding.

“None of this would be possible without the dedication and hard work of our staff and their relentless focus on the needs of our students so well done to you all!”

Inspectors also said that the “residential accommodation is very well maintained and is clean and well decorated”, and that “regular health and safety and fire checks mean students are provided with a safe environment to enjoy”.
