Commemorative bench for soldier Nick installed today in Grantham
A bench in memory of a young soldier has been installed in the centre of Grantham this morning, 27 years after his death.
The official unveiling of the bench in memory of Nick Peacock will take place at noon on Sunday on St Peter’s Hill.
Nick grew up in Grantham but was tragically killed aged 20 by a bomb in Ireland in 1989. His friend Glenn Wormall and local businesses have united to create the commemorative seat.
Representatives from Nick’s regiment, the 2nd Battalion of The Royal Anglian Regiment, known as ‘The Poachers’, will be at the ceremony, as will a bugler, and all are welcome to attend.
The above photo of the bench being installed was taken by former ‘Poacher’ Bruce Wells, who said lots of members of the regiment will be there on Sunday to pay their respects.
