Helping Hands Grantham and On Yer Bikes groups have found new premises but need help with electrics




A new community group that hopes to help people get back on their feet is appealing for help.

Karen Oliver has launched Helping Hands Grantham, designed to share knowledge and signpost people to the correct places when they need help.

She has found a new premises to host the group, which will also act as the new home of On Yer Bike, a project which helps people buy affordable bikes ran by Sandra Mullin MBE.

However, Karen explained that the building’s main electricity supply has been cut and needs to be reconnected to the national grid.

She is therefore appealing for an electricians who can help for free or a reduced fee.

Karen said: “Helping Hands Grantham is a community group run by volunteers. No one is being paid wages, so all the money goes back on keeping the building open and helping people of Grantham to get back on their feet.

“So whatever the problem is, come to us and we will try and help or signpost you to the correct place. It is about sharing knowledge and resources.

“We have a swop shop you bring down a bag of clothes that now don’t fit to take away the next size that does fit.

“We are here to help you to help us, as many helping hands should make life easier.”

Karen said that she is looking for volunteers, businesses and charities to cooperate with, and that she will announce the location of the new premises soon.

She added: “Electricians and electrical companies, we need to get an electrical certificate but some work needs to done free or cheap.

“Please message if you can help us and we help you by advertising you.”

Sandra has run On Yer Bike since 2005, and was most recently based at the BHive Community Hub, in Finkin Street.

She explained that she needs bigger premises to keep up with the demand for the project, which she has found with Karen, who also helps her with On Yer Bike.
