Local food manufacturer, PAS (Grantham) Ltd, is on the lookout for a new apprentice to join the engineering team at its Easton-based factory.

The company, which is a subsidiary business of McCain Foods, has been running an engineering apprenticeship scheme for four years. The scheme offers young people targeted skills training in engineering, with on-site experience at a leading food business.

During the four-year programme, apprentices work with the company’s highly skilled engineers on a range of exciting ‘real life’ projects in the factory. Whilst gaining on-site experience, they also spend time studying towards industry recognised qualifications, including NVQ Levels 2 and 3, a BTEC and a Higher National Certificate (HNC).

Third year apprentice, Dom Sieczka, said: “I think an apprenticeship is a really good career path. As an apprentice you get actual experience while you study, so it’s different to a normal college course.

“Every day is different and I really like the electrical side of engineering – finding solutions to any faults that come up. Engineers have a really interesting job and I’m really enjoying getting experience with them.”

Engineering area manager and apprentice mentor, Jeremy Sharpe, said the company offers great opportunities for young people.

“Apprenticeships give young people practical experience and respected qualifications, which is an enviable skillset in a competitive job market. Since we launched the apprenticeship scheme, we’ve seen a lot of benefits – both for our apprentices and the business.

“If you’re a practical problem solver aged 16 to 24 and you’re looking for a new challenge, our engineering apprenticeship could be a great starting point for your career.”

The deadline for applications is Monday, March 16. The successful candidate will begin their apprenticeship in September 2015.
