Lincolnshire County Council will send out primary school offers as planned - but schools could be forced to look at new ways to help children transition from nursery
Schools could be forced to look at new ways to help children make the transition from nursery to reception classes in September.
Lincolnshire County Council has confirmed that parents will receive primary school offers as planned on Thursday (April 16) for children who are due to start school in the autumn.
Teachers would normally host taster sessions or home visits to get to know their new pupils before the start of the academic year, but the coronavirus pandemic could put a stop to this.
Schools are currently closed to everyone except vulnerable pupils and the children of key workers.
Martin Smith, the council's interim assistant director for education, said: "Primary school offers are still set to be announced on Thursday as planned.
"The vast majority of families will receive their offer via email. Those who did not apply online will get a letter through the post.
"We are currently looking at alternative methods that schools might be able to use to help children transition smoothly from nursery to primary school should the current lockdown be extended significantly.
"This guidance is being worked up and will depend on how the current situation unfolds."
