Councillor pushing for adoption of Springfield Road play park in Grantham so future repairs are made quicker

A councillor has provided an update on a Grantham play park that residents say has been left in an unsafe state.

Concerns have been raised around the state of a park in Springfield Road, which has been the setting of vandalism in the past.

One resident described the recent condition of the park as "shameful”.

South Kesteven District Councillor Nicola Manterfield (Springfield, Con) has said she is working with the council to get the park’s owners, Vistry Mercia, to make repairs.

Coun Manterfield said: “I have been working with the council to get Vistry Mercia to fix the broken pieces as until that happens nothing can move forward with the adoption yet at the moment.”

A spokesperson for Vistry Mercia said: “The park at Mallard Quarter in Grantham is currently still owned by Vistry Mercia, and we are in discussions with the council to transfer the play area to local council ownership.

“We are aware of the vandalism which the park has suffered and therefore instructed a full report by a ROSPA qualified inspector.

“We are currently acting on the report’s recommendations and have commissioned a play equipment specialist to carry out the required repairs.”

However, Coun Manterfield said that Vistry Mercia were “kicking their heels to get to that point”.

She continued: “I will continue to push the council to get to the adopted position so that any repairs in the future will be done far quicker.

“If any residents have any concerns, please do contact me and I’ll be happy to discuss this further.”
