‘Cultural richness’ of Celebrate the Nations event in Grantham’s Jubilee Church Life Centre is ‘hard to describe’

An event that celebrates the many different cultures in Grantham was well-attended.

More than 240 people from 31 different nations, who live in the Grantham area, enjoyed the annual Jubilee Church Life Centre’s ‘Celebrate the Nations’ event on Saturday November 18.

Based at its centre in London Road, the event showcased several traditional dances and songs.

Pat Whittaker, one of the event organisers, said: “The cultural richness of this event is hard to describe; traditional costumes, national food, flags and dances made this a truly international gathering.

“Sunrise Rotarians and volunteers played a huge part in the smooth running of the evening, all working cheerfully and tirelessly throughout the event. They are such a big part of this event.

“Several nationalities performed traditional dances others sang much to the delight of those attending.”

At the centre’s ‘Chat Cafe’ on Tuesday morning, the event was the main topic of conversation.

The café runs alongside Jubilee’s free English lessons from 9.30am onwards, where many of the students can come and practice conversational English.

Pat added: “A big thank you to Chris England and his team for his support in taking amazing images and film footage.”
