'Dead dog' near Grantham railway turns out to be polystyrene reindeer

A story of a possible dead dog seen lying near the railway line at Grantham has had a happy ending.

Reported sightings of what appeared to be a stricken dog prompted Network Rail to investigate and what they discovered was that the object a number of people feared may have been someone’s beloved pet was actually a polystyrene reindeer.

A mobile operations manager for Network Rail said: “I was requested by my control to look for the ‘dog’ and discovered the polystyrene reindeer behind the range store on railway property.

“ I disposed of it so it won’t be mistaken for a furry creature again.”

The outcome was received with much relief by users of the Lost and Found Pets in Grantham UK and the Surrounding areas Facebook page, on which concerns had been expressed about what appeared to be a dead dog.

Kate South posted: “Never been so happy to hear it’s just litter.”
