Demolition approval of Great Gonerby hall will allow new homes and parish venue

Revised plans to demolish Great Gonerby’s Memorial Hall and build six semi-detached bungalows were approved by South Kesteven District Council yesterday.

It follows the refusal last April to build six detached bungalows on the site off Marratts Lane, due to concerns of overcrowding.

The new designs for semi-detached dwellings were described by SKDC’s planning officer Tony Boswell as ‘substantially better’, and earned the approval subject to conditions of 12 members of the development control committee, with one abstention.

As part of the development, a section 106 agreement has been made that the developers will provide a commuted sum towards the construction of a new village hall and sports pavillion on the playing fields at Belton Lane.

Chairman of the development control committee, Coun Martin Wilkins, said: “I’m very sympathetic to this application, as it is providing money for future community facilities.”
