Deputy Mayor of Grantham attends first engagements in new role
The Deputy Mayor of Grantham has attended her first engagements in her new role.
Councillor Charmaine Morgan attended a fundraising event with her husband John as consort at the Ropsley Heath Light Railway run by local funeral director Robert Holland.
Coun Morgan said: “It was a beautiful day. The miniature diesel and steam trains, Ropsley Heath station and track were amazing with attention given to every detail. It was also a pleasure to meet the talented local crafters and other stall holders raising funds.
“The railway is open to the public on Saturdays over the summer with opportunities for local groups to fundraise. One of the events being organised is to support the Army Benevolent Fund.”
Coun Morgan’s second engagement was at St John’s Church, Spitalgate, Grantham, which was hosted by Father Clay Roundtree and his wife Frances, along with other volunteers.
Coun Morgan said the church proved a ‘wonderful venue for a stunning brass performance’ by the Harlaxton College students, lecturers and visiting students from the USA.
St Johns is opening its doors to the community from 10am to noon offering coffee and a chat and other support nearly every morning except Sundays.
Coun Morgan added: “My thanks to everyone involved. It was so uplifting to meet such wonderful talented people and those working behind the scenes keeping everything going at both events. It was also encouraging to receive such positive feedback from our USA visitors enchanted with Grantham and surrounding rural countryside.
“I am honoured to have been voted as Grantham's new Deputy Mayor and delighted to be working closely with Mayor Coun Mark Whittington as we do our best to promote our town and the role of the Mayor and Mayor’s Parlour this year.”
