Sandra, now 78, had just started work but fell ill from pleurisy for around six months.

Her parents had moved Sandra’s bed downstairs and Frank, now aged 82, was around doing some work.

Sandra said: “[Frank] asked my parents if he could take me to the pictures once I was better.

Frank and Sandra also have three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all four of which are girls aged three and under.

In terms of hobbies, Frank plays indoor bowls at Trent Road and also teaches less able people to play.

The couple’s two dogs, Coco and Ruby, are Sandra’s hobby and she helps with coffee mornings in the village.

When asked what the secret to such a long-lasting marriage was, Frank said: “Give and take.”

Sandra added: “I can’t believe anybody that says they have never fallen out.

Frank said: “Everybody falls out, never take it to bed with you.”

They celebrated the special occasion surrounded by family on September 3 at Sharon’s house in Elton.

Sandra added: “It was lovely to get all the family together on one day.”
