Tidy Ted’s Dog Grooming salon owner asks for retrospective permission to operate business from Grantham home

A retrospective planning application has been put forward to run a dog grooming salon from a home in Grantham, with a parish council passing comment.

Tidy Ted’s Dog Grooming is operating from a home in St Andrews, on the Sunningdale estate.

That it is a retrospective planning application was raised as a comment by the Londonthorpe and Harrowby Without Parish Council. The applicant admitted the business has been operating since May.

Its owner, Charmaine Galtress, has asked South Kesteven District Council for planning permission to run the business from a timber framed building measuring 2m x 3m.

In the application, Ms Galtress said: “The proposal is to run the business Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm.

“To begin with, whilst building up the business, the salon will be open on Thursdays and Friday, hoping to build up business over time.

“There will be just one dog on the premises at a time, and a maximum of six dogs per day.

“Customers will drop off and collect dogs so there will be no parking for longer than 10 minutes. We have a driveway capable of accommodating three cars currently.

“The timber framed building will be insulated to ensure there is minimum noise, but is located a good distance from the neighbouring properties. No noisy dogs will be accepted.

“A gate has been added to the side of the property through which the building will be accessed, so there will be minimal movement of client dogs within the property.

“The salon will be equipped with a shower and ‘bath’. The ‘bath’ is essentially a shower tray with a waste pipe which will be drained into a soak away.”

The planning application shows that the parish council has asked for clarity over whether the business is allowed to operate.

Parish clerk Pete Armstrong asks: “Is this allowed as I am led to believe there is a covenant on these properties denying use as a business!”

SKDC will assess the application in due course.
