Double arson in Grantham building under investigation

A second fire that broke out at an abandoned building in Grantham is being treated as arson.

The fire broke out at the disused Westgate Social Club on Wednesday, less than a week after an arson attack in the same building.

The first suspected arson took place on Thursday, when waste paper was set alight.

On both occasions, the Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue were quickly on the scene to handle the situation, and nobody was hurt in either incident.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “We are treating this incident as arson. No one has been arrested. Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident 171 of 19 February.”

Police are still attempting to track down a witness to the arson on Thursday.

A woman spoke to firefighters at the derelict social club. However, she left before her details were taken.

The woman stated that she had a video of the fire and had information about those responsible.

Officers released a CCTV image of the Fiat 500 vehicle she left in after speaking to fire crews.

Anyone who knows the woman is asked to call Lincolnshire Police on 101 number, email force.control@lincs.pnn.police.uk or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
