Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership issues mud on the road advice – with A16 and A151 among the roads suffering from hazardous driving conditions

Motorists have been urged to be aware of the hazard posed by mud on the roads – with several routes across the area experiencing slippery conditions.

Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership is urging farmers and construction companies to do what they can to keep our roads clear – but drivers are asked to be alert to a danger often posed at this time of year.

Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership senior manager Steve Batchelor said: “Lincolnshire is a rural county and agriculture plays a big part in our economy. At this time of year there is an increased risk of mud on the roads, with a combination of autumn weather and seasonal activity.

“We would urge drivers to remain vigilant and ensure they are able to reduce their speed and travel safely should they encounter a surface that may be slippery.

“If there is a danger that mud may accidently be deposited, farmers and construction companies should put out warning signs to advise other road users.

“In addition, there are practical steps that can be taken, ensure that vehicles and equipment is suitable for the soil and weather conditions, wash vehicles down as far as possible before taking to the road, driving slowly, and use/hire road cleaning vehicles.”

The A151 between Weston and Whaplode and the A16 north of Sutterton were flagged by motorists as areas with a large build-up of mud in the last few days.

Elsewhere in Lincolnshire, police were having to direct motorists to behave as though they were ‘driving on ice’ on the A16 just south of Sibsey on Thursday (November 16) given the extremely high levels of mud.
