Grantham drumming prodigy set to tour Asia with School of Rock musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber

A drumming prodigy from Grantham is set to tour around Asia as part of the cast of a hit musical.

Sam Bickmore, aged 11, will be playing Freddy Hamilton in School of Rock as it tours around Asia in 2024.

Earlier this year, Sam passed his degree-level ATCL Diploma in drums with distinction after passing his Grade 8 last year aged 10.

Sam has been playing the drums since he was six years old and has an ever-growing presence on Youtube and social media.

He performed in the County Amateur Operatic Society production of School of Rock at New Theatre Royal Lincoln in May this year.

Sam saw the casting advert in August for Andrew Lloyd Webber's School of Rock Asia Tour, before going through the process of auditioning.

He was offered the role in October and rehearsals began on November 20 in London.

Sam’s parents, Gary and Sarra Bickmore, say they are “amazingly proud” of what Sam has achieved.

Gary said: “We would like to thank everyone who supported him on his journey so far. Sam is super excited to be going on tour with this truly incredible show.”

The first show of the tour is in Seoul on January 12. Sam will fly out to South Korea at the end of December and will tour there until April.

He will then tour China with the show from May until October.
