Event in memory of Grantham mum raises over £3,000 for St Barnabas Hospice, with other fundraisers also celebrated
A hospice has been well-supported by a variety of fundraising events, including a tribute event in memory of a Grantham mother that raised over £3,000.
St Barnabas Hospice, which has a wellbeing centre in Barrowby Road has seen a very busy time in Grantham lately, thanks to the good work of fundraisers out in the community, with thousands of pounds raised for the organisation.
On August 23, Yvonne Yates, landlady of the Three Gables Pub, joined with Callum Sutton to host a tribute event in memory of his mum Amanda Garrett, who sadly died aged 46 in the Hospice in the Hospital.
The event at the pub was held on the first anniversary of Amanda’s passing. There was a huge raffle with more than 40 prizes donated by local businesses, a silent auction, a sweet stall and lots of singing and dancing.
A total of £3,100 was raised and the organiser hope that the event will become an annual occasion.
Three of the wellbeing centre’s coffee morning group held a Care For A Cuppa event on September 2 in Allington and raised £530.
There was an afternoon tea, a raffle, tombola and more. Thanks were given to Elizabeth, Archie and Avice for their continued support.
If you would like to host your own Care For A Cuppa, it is really easy to sign up here.
Another thank you from St Barnabas went to Stuart Mitchell, who held a celebration of life event after the passing of his wife Janice. Thanks to the generosity of their friends and family, they raised an incredible £725.
Neville Price from Hunter’s Bar Pool Hall has raised over £7,000 after organising two memorial tournaments in recent years.
A St Barnabas spokesperson said the charity is “so grateful for the continued support from everyone at Hunter’s Bar and there are more events to come in the future”.
A 12 hour ‘Spin A Thon’ has been organised at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre on Saturday (September 23).
The centre is also promoting National Fitness Week which takes place this week. The event will be from 8.15am to 8pm and be split into 12 sessions (four three-hour blocks) in the 20-bike studio.
There will be six instructors taking part too. Seats will be sold at £5 for members and £10 to non-members. For more information, click here or call 01476 581930.
If you are more into music, there is an event at Edward’s Bar in Market Place on Sunday October 1 from 4pm until 7pm.
It is being organised by Ian Parker to support a former band member from local band ‘Outside Chance’, who is in the hospice at the minute receiving care.
The band play rock/pop music and want to raise some money for St Barnabas on the night.
St Barnabas say they would also love to have some sponsored runners in this year’s Rotary Club Grantham Santa Fun Run and Walk.
It is taking place on Sunday December 10, when runners dressed in their Santa suits will set off from outside the visitor centre in Wyndham Park at approximately 11am on a 2.5km route, with an optional extension to 5km.
The route is set around the Wyndham Park and Queen Elizabeth Park. Everyone who is registered and completes the run or walk will be awarded a Santa Fun Run medal.
There is a cost to register of £14 for adults and those aged over 12. Aged 5 to 12 cost £8 and aged 4 and under are free. Runners must register here before they can ask people to sponsor them.
Suzanne Sheppard is organising a ball in memory of her sister, Caroline, in 2024. The ‘Let It Shine Ball’ will be held at Belton Woods Hotel on July 13 with all monies raised going to support the vital work of St Barnabas.
Tickets are £50 and there will be a three course meal, a raffle and music from local bands. More information can be found here.
A St Barnabas spokesperson said that the fundraisers’ “dedication to raising money for the charity means that St Barnabas are able to continue their incredible work at the Hospice in the Hospital, at Barrowby Road Wellbeing Centre and around the county with the hospice at home nurses”.
