There are three choices on that crossroad once the school bell rings for the last time.

According to British law, pupils can leave school on the last Friday in June if they’ll turn 16 by the end of the summer holidays.

Until they turn 18, they must then either stay in full-time education like a college, start an apprenticeship or traineeship or spend 20 hours or more a week working or volunteering, while in part-time education or training.

One great option for those soon to finish their compulsory education is Grantham College where a wide range of university level courses in partnership with Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) and Edexcel are on offer.

For these fortunate University Level students at Grantham College, their career path is right on their doorstep and in the heart of their community!

“Here at Grantham College, we can offer students lower cost higher education courses that are basically the equivalent to the first two years of a degree,” said Jaz Abeysekera who is Marketing Manager at Grantham College.

“Some of our courses are actually BGU’s courses but delivered here at Grantham College.

“That means that we have strong links to the universities but are also on hand to help out those looking for higher level apprenticeships out in the world.”

Logistically, that special relationship with BGU is perfect for Grantham residents.

Grantham-based students taking those courses will ultimately graduate from BGU without necessarily needing to make the arduous 1-hour commute to Lincoln - although they are free to use the facilities there if they want.

And there’s even more luck for those seeking Higher Level Apprenticeships in Computing and Engineering.

Grantham College recently received a significant £2.6million boost in funding to build an Institute of Technology (IOT) building - on the site of an old police station - which will primarily be used for Engineering and Computing students.

This will afford more teaching spaces, equipment and resources, as well as the prestige, branding and attraction of the IOT status.

“As an IOT satellite, the college will expand its Higher Education provision in Engineering and Computing subjects,” continued Jaz.

“Our aim is for the refurbishment and completion of the build project to be finalised in October this year.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for students interested in Engineering and Computing.”
