A1 at Grantham and A606 near Oakham among routes flooded as drivers head back to work after Christmas
Drivers heading back to work are being warned of flooding on major routes.
The A1 is among the roads closed due to flooding. The road is now open between the A607 near Grantham and the B1174 near Little Ponton after it was closed earlier this morning (Monday, January 6).
The A1 northbound between the A607 at Harlaxton and Melton Mowbray turn off and Valley Lane, Long Bennington and Cotham turn off.
Other routes affected by flooding today (Monday, January 6) include:
* A606 Langham - this road is currently not passable and vehicles are stuck in flood water
* A15 Aslackby north of Bourne and Folkingham, Morton High Street and Pointon - Delaine buses 401 suspended and 101 running but unable to call at Morton
* A151 at Corby Glen is flooded along with areas including Bourne Road and nearby villages such as Lower Bitchfield.
* Whissendine - Main Street by the bridge and the Oakham Road towards Langham by the bridge
* Oakham to Ashwell Road
* Oakham to Brooke road at Brooke Priory flooded
* Brooke to Ridlington Road flooded near Jubilee Lodge
* B668 in Stretton which is limiting access to the A1
* The A52 is shut between Donington and Grantham
* The A17 is currently closed between near the Brant Broughton and Fulbeck Heath turn-offs, with queuing traffic in both directions
* Bottesford High Street, Queen Street, Albert Street, Belvoir Road, Market Street, and Barkestone Lane are affected.
* A151 impassable at Edenham and the railway bridge at Corby Glen
* A6121 impassable at Toft Valley and Essendine (Rutland) also flooded
* B1177 impassable at Horbling towards the A52
* A15 is currently passable with care between Folkingham and Bourne
* The back road to Carlby by the railway line is flooded
Do not attempt to cross any of the fords in our area, eg. Mareham Lane at Graby
Cross Country rail services have also been replaced by buses between Leicester and Peterborough, including stops at Stamford and Oakham.
East Midlands Railways also says Grantham to Notts affected by flooding as well, initially there were no alternative routes but some tickets may now be accepted by other operators. Check EMR’s website for more details.
Flood warnings are in place for the River West Glen including Corby Glen and Creeton, River Tham in Castle Bytham and Little Bytham, River East Glen in the East Glen Valley, Billingborough Ousemere Lode in parts of Billingborough and Horbling and Swaton Eau in Swaton Village.
Whissendine Primary School in Rutland is closed today (January 6) because many routes into the village are impassable and not enough staff are able to reach the school for it to operate safely.
