Flooding fears lead to deferral of homes plan for Long Clawson
Councillors deferred making a decision on plans to build 10 homes in Long Clawson until they know more about flooding issues due to the site’s history.
More than 70 letters from residents objecting to the proposals to build the homes on land off Melton Road were received by Melton Council.
Clawson, Hose and Harby Parish Council also expressed fears that the development would add to the village’s long-standing flooding problems, with particular concern about the ‘substantial risk of flooding in the west end of the village from surface water’.
Planning officers had recommended approved, subject to conditions including that no development would take place until a surface water drainage scheme had been submitted to, and approved in writing, by the council.
Richard Cooper, agent for the applicants, told members of the planning committee that the development was of an “appropriate scale without affecting the village’s character”.
But they remained concerned and deferred their decision until they knew more.
