Echo Tree Forest School in Barrowby teach children about the outdoors and aim to improve confidence

A forest school in Barrowby aims to give children a stronger connection with the natural world.

Echo Tree Forest School runs weekly sessions on Wednesdays after school hours from 3.20pm to 5.15pm.

Founded by Rebecca Elston back in September 2021, the school started from an overgrown site next to the village church with an old derelict stone shed.

Rebecca explained that this site has been “brought back to life” with the additions of a treehouse, split chestnut fencing and a hazel hedge.

This term, the school will use the sessions to teach children about identifying trees, their uses and folklore.

The sessions, which are run by Level 3 Forest School practitioners with enhanced DBS checks, focus on developing confidence, creativity and well-being.

Some of the session activities include den-building, fire-lighting and camp fire cooking.
