Former Grantham nightclub to become an indoor market
Plans are underway to transform a former nightclub in Grantham town centre into an indoor market.
What was Club Miami, in Westgate, will become The Indoor Market, featuring 25-30 stalls. It is hoped the market will open its doors mid-January.
To the front, opening on to Westgate, is the Market Cafe, which is already open to customers. It was previously a hair and beauty salon.
The “exciting” venture is entirely new to business owner Adrian Wright, who comes from an engineering background.
He said: “It seemed a huge opportunity, one not to miss. I know there are lots of cafes around, so I wanted to do something a bit different, with really good value food made using local ingredients.
“It’s a very exciting time. The idea of having an indoor market has really appealed to market traders.”
Helping him to run the market and cafe is Kaz Smith, who said the response from potential traders so far has been “really good”.
Adrian hopes the market will bring young families into the town centre, as he feels there are few places in the town which cater for young children.
He said: “There’s nowhere for young mothers and their children to go. The cafe is very spacious so it’s very easy for pushchairs and wheelchairs to get about.
“Other places that cater for children seem to be right on the outskirts of town. I want to try and get people back into town.”
If successful, Adrian has plans to build a children’s play area.
There is car parking for up to 80 vehicles to the rear of the building.
