Friends pay tribute to teenager who died in Grantham bridge tragedy

Friends have paid tribute to a teenage student who died this week by releasing balloons and laying flowers.

The group of friends paid tribute today to the 19-year-old, who has been named as Niks Karelis, by visiting the Gorse Lane bridge over the A1 at Grantham where he died on Thursday.

Mr Karelis was found near the bridge at around 2.30am.

A Public Services shirt was also left on the bridge along with the floral tributes. Mr Karelis attended Grantham College.

Angela Sousa said on behalf of Niks' friends and family: "Niks was a loving person at heart, cared about anyone and everyone, and he brought laughter into our hearts. We will forever cherish every moment we had with him as he played a big role in our lives.

"He will be missed badly and will never be forgotten about. He will forever be in our hearts. Niks has had a positive affect upon us. So we give thanks to Niks for the memories."

The tragedy was the second to happen in a week on the A1 following an incident on Dysart Road on Monday in which a 69-year-old man died.

Police have asked for any information and dash cam footage the public may be able to provide in connection with either incident.
