GALLERY: Jo Jingles shares virtual music lesson with children and elderly of Grantham

Residents of a Grantham care home joined a musical movements group for children via video call.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, Andreas Alkiviades, has been running his Jo Jingles music and movement group virtually on the video calling app Zoom.

The lesson, aimed at children aged between three months and five years, was also shared with care home residents at Maple Leaf Lodge, in Beacon Lane.

Andreas said: “It’s a good idea to invite the residents and show them something different. I could see them enjoying it. Music makes people happy.

“The residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves watching the children having fun. It gave the residents something different to talk about but also some much needed respite and happiness.

“As they have enjoyed it so much I have invited them to do it again. I am hoping to extend the invitation to more care homes locally.”

Andreas runs Jo Jingles South Lincolnshire and Rutland. He has been running the virtual musical movement lessons from his home in Grantham since the beginning of the lockdown.

He continued: “I run the classes on Zoom because it is important that the children can see me and see their friends which is important for their mental health. It is also important for the parents who get to see other parents that they would normally talk to at the classes.”

While enjoying the musical element of the classes, the children are learning key skills such as literacy and numeracy that Andreas said “will give them a head start”.
