Get ready...Grantham’s Newton the Easter Bunny is set to tour the town!
His tours around Grantham have made Newton the Easter Bunny a famous face, and he is getting ready to set off on his fourth tour of the town.
The four-day fund-raising tour begins on Monday, March 23, with Newton aboard a truck and flanked by kind volunteers who give their time to collect donations.
Each tour is between 4pm and 7pm, starting on the Monday on the Earlesfield estate, Gonerby Hill Foot on Tuesday, Huntingtower Road area on Wednesday and finishing on the Alma Park area on Thursday.
The fund-raising tours were the brainchild of Tess Sheehy, 44, of Denton Avenue, Grantham. She said: “I am totally overwhelmed by the excitement once again on the build-up to Newton touring the town during the run up to Easter.
“As promised we have put a new route on the Tuesday evening at Gonnerby Hill Foot. It seems incredible that this is Newton’s fourth year and the level of interest is still soaring. I’m very proud of everyone who commits their time to help this to be a success in helping such worthy causes. The people of Grantham are amazing, kind and generous and I thank each and everyone of you.”
Money raised will go towards enhancing community facilities Huntingtower Community Primary Academy and supporting Grantham Fire Station.
Huntingtower headteacher Mark Anderson said: “It’s an absolute delight for our school to get behind such a worthwhile anual event. As a school the community is extremely important to us and our children. I am extremely grateful and touched by all the hard work that continues.”
The fund-raising intiative, backed up by the ‘Newton Team’ of helpers, is being supported by several businesses who sponsor egg-shaped boards along the truck, on loan from Colas and being driven by Mick Eldred. Sponsors are Robert Holland Funeral Director, Trade Carpets, Sam Ballaam Motors, Kevin Bellamy Roofing, Paul Heard Properties, Thorold and Kent, and Fun Farm.
