New pastor for Grantham Baptist Church
A new lead pastor has joined the Grantham Baptist Church.
The Reverend David Judkins started his ministry there on April 1 and is working alongside Ken Matthews, who has been lead pastor for some five years.
Ken and wife Sue will support David in his new role but will be increasingly pursuing their calling to train and empower indigenous leaders in Sub-Saharan Africa. Their passion is to see community transformation among the poorest of the poor.
David, his wife Claire-Lise and their four sons are living locally. The family recently returned after living in France for seven years, where they worked with BMS World Mission in creating new churches.
Unfortunately, their belongings are stuck in France but the church has stepped in with gifts and furniture.
Before his training for ministry David worked in IT project management. Claire-Lise, who is French, is also a trained minister with a background in youth work.
David said: “It feels rather surreal to be beginning a new ministry in this challenging context [of lockdown].”
He added: “We feel uniquely prepared by God for such a time as this in that our experience in France has served us in good stead.”
The usual welcome for a new minister has been put on hold with the planned induction service postponed.
The church is running a series of daily thoughts, and a Sunday podcast. Various members of the ministry team prepare readings, songs, prayers and short talks at their homes, with David heading up the team.
