Bin your fast food and picnic waste to help keep Grantham and the surrounding villages cleaner and healthier.

This is the message from South Kesteven District Council as part of the Clean and Green campaign, a partnership between the council and Journal.

Al fresco eating is popular when the weather is good and having picnics and enjoying fast food can be part of the fun during the summer holidays. But residents must always be responsible about how they bin the subsequent waste following an increase in items dropped in public areas and thrown from cars in recent weeks.

Litter bins are never far away, meaning if you are taking fast food or drinks to a park or open space or out and about in the car or work vehicle, always find a bin to deposit the items in.

Anyone seen littering in South Kesteven can be given an on the spot fine of £75.

SKDC’s executive manager for environment Ian Yates said: “When eating outdoors or when on the move it’s never acceptable to drop the resultant packaging from what you pick up for a meal or snack.

“We appeal to people to take the extra time and responsibility to not make our neighbourhoods and public places an eyesore by discarding litter.

“Remember if you take your litter home, there are many items you can always recycle. Check the latest list here.”
