Grantham Clean and Green: Food, nappies and metal not welcome in recycling bins

Householders in South Kesteven are being reminded to recycle only the correct items in their silver bins and clear bags.

Food, polystyrene, nappies, wood, metal and hard plastics are among the most current incorrect items that are placed in recycling bins and bags.

Instead, they should be placed in black bins, pink bags or taken to the household waste recycling centre in Grantham.

Residents should always check www.southkesteven.gov.uk/recyclinglist if they are unsure if an item should be placed in their recycling bin.

South Kesteven District Council’s executive manager for environment Ian Yates said: “Please take the time to check what goes in your silver bin or clear bag – to ensure you do your bit to decrease what we send to residual waste sites and keep South Kesteven cleaner and greener.”

The council is also informing all residents there will be no bin or bag collections on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day. Instead, silver bin and clear bag collections scheduled for Christmas Day will take place two weeks later than normal, on Friday, January 8.

Black bin and pink bag collections scheduled for Friday, January 1, will be collected a day later on Saturday, January 2.

All other collections take place at the normal scheduled days of the week.

Extra clear bags will be distributed to all householders affected by the changes on Friday, December 11.
