Grantham College students donate toys to children's hospital ward

A group of kindhearted college students have given a bumper donation of toys to patients in a children’s ward.

The Anglian Water apprentices, who all live on site at Grantham College, delivered the toys to the Kingfisher Children’s Unit at Grantham Hospital, on Friday.

Mark Fisher, 27, came up with the idea after spotting a poster about the unit at the gym.

Along with his course mates, he contacted businesses in and around town, to ask for donations towards a tombola.

Businesses including Subway and Sainsbury’s donated prizes and the tombola raised £115.80.

The students bought a selection of indoor and garden toys at B&M Bargains, including hula hoops and scooters.

Mark said: “It’s been brilliant working hard to support an important part of the community, whilst having some really fun moments with your friends. I really wanted to finish my first year of my apprenticeship and feel that I have contributed something to the Grantham Community.

“I was inspired to do something positive by seeing others supporting the hospital and I hope others will be inspired to do something good and help others in Grantham, too.

“I would like to thank community businesses for getting involved and look forward to doing some more good next term at college.”

Staff at the hospital expressed their gratitude for the toys, which young patients can enjoy during their stay on the ward, which also has a little garden.
