Grantham firefighters endure the pain of having their legs waxed for charity

Two Grantham firefighters had to grin and bear it when they had their legs waxed for charity.

Clive Baillie and Craig Tuck braved the pain to raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity and Newlife, a charity for disabled children which has helped Clive who has a teenage son with Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

The firefighters had their legs waxed at Asda by Jude Hall, of the Coloroom, on Saturday, and raised £1,645. The day before, they raised £805 with a bucket collection at Sainsbury’s to collect a magnificent total of £2,450 for both charities over the weekend.

In July, Clive will be joined by fellow firefighter Kyle Campbell to tackle the three peaks in just three days. Not only will they be climbing the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales, they will also cycle the 450 miles between them. Craig will act as a support driver for them together with colleague Peter Scarlett.

Clive said he was ‘over the moon’ with the amount raised which takes the total raised so far to just under £8,000. By the time they complete the three peaks challenge, from July 5 to 7, they hope to raise £10,000, but the team look on course to raise much more.

Clive said: “The leg waxing smarted a bit but it was well worth it.”

On June 6 there will be a one day ride around the nine whole-time stations in the county, as well as Bourne station. The stations will be raising money on the day.

There is also a collection in the Isaac Newton Centre on Saturday, May 27, and there will be a fun day at McDonald’s on June 3 when firefighters will take a fire engine along for children to have a look around.
