Grantham Hospital workers recognised at staff awards
Three Grantham Hospital workers have been recognised at a staff awards ceremony hosted by the hospitals trust.
They were among 200 patients, volunteers and staff members from across United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT), who came together to celebrate at the annual ULHT Staff Awards which recognises and celebrates the dedication and hard work of staff.
Among the Grantham Hospital winners was Catherine Havard, hospital at night site lead, who was the winner of the Outstanding Leader Award. After receiving her award, Catherine said: "This is my 30th year serving the Trust and I retire next year, so I was delighted to receive the award. I represent Grantham Hospital at Night, a team I am very proud to be a part of. It was very emotional to hear the nomination being read out, knowing that colleagues have taken the time to write such lovely words. I know that I am only as ‘outstanding’ as the team I lead at night."
Grantham Hospital physiotherapist Marguerite Close won a Highly Commended award in the category of Unsung Heroes – Clinical. She said: “From all of the many and several unsung heroes working for ULHT, I was honoured to be nominated for this award by Philippa Close from out-patients Grantham Hospital. I would like to thank my colleague Rosie Teare for accompanying me to the celebration and also the Trust and the sponsors for a wonderful evening of celebration and fun.”
Patient experience manager Sharon Kidd was also highly commended in the Research, Innovation and Education category. Sharon said: “I was thrilled and honoured to receive the highly recommended award in the service improvement, education and research category. It’s so rewarding to know a peer had nominated me in the first place which really means a lot. It shows that even the smallest idea of swan ring bags from donated old ties can be recognised.”
This year, more than 600 nominations were received for staff in a wide range of job roles, all showcasing the quality of care that is given to patients and colleagues. The ceremony, was held last Thursday at the EPIC Centre at Lincolnshire Showground.
ULHT chief executive Jan Sobieraj said: “This was my last Staff Awards at ULHT. I have seen so many examples of how our staff have gone above and beyond for their patients during my time at the trust and the Staff Awards really highlights just how far people will go to provide the best possible care.”
A raffle held on the evening also raised £837 to help fund next year’s event as the whole awards are funded entirely by sponsorship and charitable funds.
Trust chairman Elaine Baylis said: “We know that staff at ULHT provide excellent care to the people of Lincolnshire and recognising this is really important. Thank you to everyone for their hard work but also to everyone who took the time to nominate.”
The awards were hosted by BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Melvyn Prior and each award was presented with a trophy and/or certificate by a member of the Trust Board, a patient representative or sponsor.
